A three-day Mekong Delta itinerary should not mean collecting three provinces. The Delta is large, and moving between Ben Tre, Cần Thơ and other destinations can quietly turn a short stay into a transport schedule. Three days work better when they let you see one rural area in the late afternoon, morning and unplanned hours between activities.
I have lived in this part of Ben Tre for decades and personally host international guests at Coco Happy Farm. One practical lesson appears again and again: the order of activities matters. Guests arriving from Ho Chi Minh City are often interested but tired. They enjoy looking at the river that first afternoon; they enjoy cycling much more after breakfast and a full night’s sleep.

Boats and tuk-tuk carry you for most of the afternoon. Walking is limited, so the experience suits a travel day.

After a night’s rest, cycle while the morning is cooler and you have the energy to notice the route.

Free time in a garden, on a bicycle or over lunch is part of a rural stay—not empty space to repair.
Put the physically easier experience on arrival day. The sunset and fireflies route uses a larger boat, tuk-tuk and sampan, with only about 1–2 km of walking. Save cycling for the next morning, when guests are rested and the temperature is kinder.
Day 1: check in, river scenery and fireflies
Aim to reach the farm by 1:30 or 2:00 PM. This leaves time to put away luggage, drink a coconut and understand the afternoon plan. If a flight, bus or traffic delay makes that impossible, do not turn the first hour into a race. Move the river evening to Day 2 and adjust the free period instead.
The experience normally begins around 3:00 PM. A larger boat gives a broad view of the river system; a tuk-tuk connects sections by road; and a traditional hand-rowed sampan enters smaller coconut and nipa-palm canals. These different vehicles are not included simply for novelty. They show how waterways and village roads fit together.

They are wild insects, not a guaranteed performance. Moonlight, rain, wind, season and local habitat all affect what guests see. A good evening is still worthwhile for the sunset and river atmosphere even when the fireflies are modest.
After returning around 7:00 PM, have dinner and rest. Avoid adding another organised activity. The point of staying overnight is to let the evening finish naturally.
Day 2: village cycling, then a free afternoon
Cycling is more active than the previous afternoon. Ben Tre is mostly flat, but humidity, sun, narrow bridges and sharing lanes with local motorbikes still require attention. That is why the ride belongs after breakfast on the second day, not immediately after check-in.
The regular complimentary hosted bicycle experience for in-house guests starts around 10:00 and usually lasts about two hours. An earlier, longer route of roughly three hours may be possible only by advance arrangement. The useful part is not a high kilometre count; it is seeing how houses, coconut gardens, small workshops, markets and places of worship connect.
Keep the afternoon genuinely free. Walk through the farm, see what fruit is in season, sit with a book or borrow a bicycle to explore nearby lanes at your own pace. Fruit picking depends on the garden and season; it should never be advertised as guaranteed every day. Guests who cycle independently should stay on familiar quiet roads, carry water and return before dark.
Many guests remember an unplanned coconut, a conversation with the family or an extra ride more clearly than another scheduled stop. Leave room for the place to feel real.
Day 3: fishing or cooking at the farm
After breakfast, choose one main activity. Both options are hands-on, but they have different moods. Confirm the choice in advance so the family can prepare equipment or ingredients.
Catch-and-release fishing
Use simple rods and banana bait beside the farm pond. The normal programme returns the fish to the water. Success is never guaranteed; patience is the experience.
Family cooking class
Prepare a local meal with the family, then eat what you made. The current rate is 1,000,000 VND for two guests, meal included; arrange dietary needs in advance.

Coco Happy Farm also offers The One Fish Experience: a separate, pre-arranged countryside meal connected with its long-raised large fish. For the cooking option, dishes should follow the group rather than a fixed performance menu. Tell the family about vegetarian diets, allergies, coeliac disease and children’s needs before the shopping and preparation begin. Plan lunch around 11:30 AM or noon, then check out without hurrying.
Practical planning
Two nights or three nights?
This article describes three calendar days and two nights: arrive on Day 1, sleep twice and leave after lunch on Day 3. Add a third night if you want a completely free departure day, arrive from a long international flight or prefer to do both fishing and cooking rather than choose.
Getting from Ho Chi Minh City
Private transport is simplest when you need to arrive before the 3:00 PM river departure. Coco Happy Farm’s current guide price is from 1,700,000 VND per car, with the current fare confirmed before booking. The usual driver is Thuần’s older brother Thành, a professional driver with more than 25 years of experience.
For value, local travellers commonly call Minh Tâm directly instead of using an international online bus engine. Departures average about every 45 minutes as a planning guide. Weather and flexibility
Rain does not automatically ruin a Delta stay. Short tropical showers can be worked around, but lightning, heavy rain or unsafe river conditions require a change. Keep Day 2 afternoon open partly for this reason. Move a missed ride or garden walk into that space rather than forcing an unsafe schedule.
