How to Travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Ben Tre

Ben Tre is close enough to Ho Chi Minh City for a short trip, but transport advice online can be misleading. A booking site may sell a seat on a vehicle continuing toward Trà Vinh or another province and describe a roadside stop near Ben Tre as “Ben Tre.” That may be technically correct, but it is not necessarily convenient.

I host international travellers at Coco Happy Farm in the Giồng Trôm countryside. Local people normally contact familiar bus companies directly. They choose a service for its office, route and local shuttle—not because it appears first on an international booking engine. The most important question is therefore not only “Which bus reaches Ben Tre?” but “Where exactly will it leave me, and how will I reach my accommodation?”

Which option is best for you?

These are sensible planning ranges, not promises. Ho Chi Minh City traffic, rain, public holidays and the exact rural destination affect the journey. Rạch Miễu 2 Bridge has improved the approach to Ben Tre, but the full door-to-door trip still depends on both cities and local roads.

How locals travel: book Minh Tâm directly

For guests travelling from central Ho Chi Minh City to Coco Happy Farm, Minh Tâm is usually the bus company I recommend. It is not the only company serving this corridor, but its local route and transfer arrangement are convenient for our location.

Services are frequent. As a simple planning guide, expect roughly one departure every 45 minutes on average—often around every 30 minutes in the morning and approximately hourly later in the day. This is not a fixed timetable. Call Minh Tâm to confirm the current departure, pickup office and fare before leaving.

The practical route to Coco Happy Farm

1. Contact Minh Tâm directly. Confirm the most convenient Saigon office, departure time and current fare.
2. Share the destination. Say you are going to Coco Happy Farm and ask for the local transfer to “đầu lộ Mã Đá.”
3. Take the intercity coach. Keep WhatsApp or your phone available because local coordination may happen by call.
4. Use Minh Tâm’s local shuttle. It normally brings guests free of charge to the entrance of Mã Đá road, about three kilometres from the farm.
5. Tell Coco Happy Farm your arrival time. We can collect light-travelling guests from the junction by motorbike at no charge.

The complimentary motorbike pickup is suitable only when the passenger and luggage can travel safely. Families with small children, guests with mobility needs or travellers carrying large suitcases should tell us in advance so we can recommend or arrange a more appropriate final vehicle.

Private pickup: the simplest option

A pre-arranged car collects you at a Ho Chi Minh City hotel or Tan Son Nhat Airport and drives directly to Coco Happy Farm. There is no bus-office transfer, no uncertainty about a roadside stop and no need to find a rural driver after arrival.

Our transfers are usually driven by Thanh, Thuần’s older brother. He has more than 25 years of professional driving experience and knows both the airport process and the local roads around the farm. The usual vehicle is a modern seven-seat car with practical space for passengers and luggage.

Publishing a guide price helps travellers compare real total costs. The bus remains much cheaper for one or two independent travellers. A private car becomes more attractive for a family or group because the price is per vehicle, not per person, and it includes the complete door-to-door journey.

Choose a private car if you:

• arrive on an international flight;
• travel with children, several suitcases or limited mobility;
• will arrive after dark;
• want a known driver and direct rural delivery;
• have an onward flight or fixed connection.

Can you use Grab or a taxi?

Yes. Grab can be convenient from a hotel because you can enter the exact map destination and view an estimated price. However, an intercity driver may call to check the distance, and acceptance is not guaranteed. Availability is weaker in heavy rain, late at night and during holidays.

Book ahead where possible and confirm that the destination is Coco Happy Farm—not simply Ben Tre city. From rural Ben Tre back to Ho Chi Minh City, nearby Grab cars are less predictable, so arrange the return rather than assuming a car will be available at the last minute.

A regular taxi can also make the journey. Agree on an intercity fare or confirm meter use, tolls, luggage and final rural delivery before departing.

Tan Son Nhat Airport to Ben Tre

There is no direct train to Ben Tre. The easiest airport option is a pre-arranged car. Send the flight number, arrival terminal, passenger names and a WhatsApp contact. International arrivals can take 45–120 minutes to complete immigration and baggage, so a flight number is more useful than guessing the exact exit time.

Thanh can wait at the agreed terminal meeting area and hold a name sign when requested. If travelling with a young child, request a suitable child seat in advance; it is not standard equipment in every Vietnamese vehicle.

The budget airport route

Travel first from the airport to Minh Tâm’s appropriate Ho Chi Minh City office, then take the coach and local shuttle. This saves money but adds city traffic, waiting and luggage handling. It is better during daytime than after a late flight.

The last mile most guides forget

Ben Tre city and rural Ben Tre are not interchangeable. Coco Happy Farm is in a quiet coconut-growing village in the Giồng Trôm area. The countryside setting is the reason many guests visit, but it requires a complete transport plan.

Save the property’s Google Maps pin and a screenshot. Administrative names have changed, and drivers may recognise a local landmark such as Mã Đá road more easily than a newly formatted address. Ask every operator where the vehicle actually stops and whether a local shuttle is included.

The farm is a rural destination, not a city-centre hotel.Arriving before dark makes a first rural journey easier.

Returning from Ben Tre to Ho Chi Minh City

Ask the farm to help confirm Minh Tâm’s collection and transfer sequence, or reserve a private car for a fixed departure. If using Grab, schedule ahead where possible and keep a backup. Rural availability is not the same as central Saigon.

For an international flight, calculate time from the farm—not from Ben Tre city. Include the rural road, possible rain, Ho Chi Minh City traffic and airport check-in. A direct car is usually the most sensible option when missing the flight would be costly.

Day trip or overnight?

A Ben Tre day trip is possible, but starting early matters. Private transport preserves more daylight; independent bus travel is cheaper but waiting and transfers reduce activity time.
